Community Support Services
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Community Support Services provides individualized supports to adults with a developmental disability living independently in the community. Services are available to assist adults living in their parental home who wish to learn skills required to move to a more independent setting. The program concentrates on teaching the skills necessary to participate to the fullest extent possible in the life of the community.

West Parry Sound Area
ELIGIBILITY
Persons 18 years of age or older who have a developmental disability.
SERVICES PROVIDED
Individualized Support
Persons will learn the skills necessary to manage their own household and will be supported in development of such skills as:
- communication, socializing, interpersonal skills;
- basic hygiene, self-care;
- home management, domestic skills;
- food selection and preparation;
- money management;
- constructive use of leisure time;
- use of medication.
Community Support
Persons will learn the skills necessary to manage independently within the community in the areas of:
- community travel;
- recognition of hazards;
- community skills such as shopping, medical appointments, etc.;
- social / recreation;
- coping with emergencies.
Advocacy
helping the person become aware and understand their rights;
assisting the person to develop skills to act as an effective advocate for themselves.
Confidentiality
The support worker will maintain confidentiality of all information about individuals receiving services.
