CULTURAL EVENTS FACILITATOR

Full-Time Contract Position

May 24, 2016 – August 26, 2016

 

WHO IS ELIGIBLE:

  • Students currently enrolled in a secondary, or post-secondary institution or within six months of graduation and have reached the age of 15 and not yet reached the age of 25 upon commencement of employment or up to 29 years for persons with a disability, if disabled, within the meaning of s.10 of the Ontario Human Rights Code, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.19, as amended from time to time
  • Students who are able to provide proof of student enrolment
  • Students who are residents of Ontario during the period of employment
  • Students who are eligible to work in Canada and have a Social Insurance Number (SIN)

 

DUTIES:

The Cultural Events Facilitator will support people with a developmental disability to build natural relationships with members of their community through participation in local cultural activities. They will promote social inclusion and help provide people with more choices to attend local festivals, music concerts and cultural activities relevant to them personally.  People will also be supported to sell their own artwork at local venues. This will greatly enhance our capacity to offer people living with a developmental disability the chance to participate in events in the Parry Sound area.

 

While assisting people to connect with cultural and community activities of their choice, the Cultural Events Facilitator will learn to anticipate any barriers to participation and problem solve with their mentor and other staff members. The Cultural Events Facilitator will learn how to support people with a developmental disability to develop the skills they require to be successful in their participation and when possible build natural supports to ensure continued participation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Applicants must possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written and must have the ability to work both independently and as a part of a team, as well as have respect for all abilities and people. The applicant must have the ability to recognize people’s skills, potential & capacity to get involved and be included as citizens.
