Many people are surprised to learn that when a child with a disability reaches the age of majority (18), their parents are no longer their legal guardians. So how can parents protect the legal rights of their adult children? Is adult guardianship a viable alternative? What is the state of supported care in Ontario?
About the speaker:
Brendon Pooran is the principal lawyer at PooranLaw, a Toronto-based law firm that focuses on wills, trusts and estates planning for individuals with disabilities and their families. He has been involved with various disability organizations as a member, volunteer, employee or director for most of his life.
Additional details:
Understanding Your Legal Rights is one seminar of a six-part series delivered by Partners for Planning, that’s focused on creating a safe and secure future for your relative who may be vulnerable or isolated.
