Family Support Services

Family Support Services (FSS) works alongside families who have a child/youth between the ages of 3 and 18 (or 21 if enrolled in high school) with a diagnosed developmental disability. FSS supports families to navigate community resources that enable them to meet immediate, transitional and future needs. The FSS team is made up of Community Inclusion Support Facilitators who specialize in the support needs of youth and their families. The primary functions of Community Inclusion and Support Facilitators on the FSS team are:

  • to empower families to advocate for themselves
  • to provide case coordination and management
  • to assist in accessing appropriate funding avenues
  • to engage in educational initiatives that promote inclusion
  • to support the exploration of employment, volunteerism, and recreation

FSS has been working to develop a Family Support Network and with it an online community – a safe space for families to create connections with one another. The soon-to-be-launched Family Support Group will act as a digital extension of the FSS supports and will allow families to share experiences, build advocacy skills and access community resources and supports.
